The Vision Behind Sheryl Still Single...
Sheryl Still Single began as a character John Loos created while commuting home from improv classes at the iO West Hollywood and listening to Delilah on the radio. Sheryl was a single woman in her 50s, happy with a successful career, who her friends and family viewed as a failure because she was alone. Years later, Loos decided to create a series around Sheryl.
Sheryl Still Single is a six-episode tragi-comic web series that follows a very tall, very awkward single woman of a certain age whose romantic failings are thrust into the spotlight when her friend Roger signs her up for a reality dating show called America's Sexiest Singles. However, not everything is as it appears.
Will Sheryl find someone to share her life with, or will the societal and familial pressure to find a mate destroy her little by little? And what does it mean to be single in your 50s? When are you allowed to define your own happiness?
Sheryl is played by John Loos, a 33-year-old gay male actor from Chicago who specializes writing and performing tragic older lady characters who often wear department store blazers and sigh and wonder what it could've been like. Sheryl is the culminating project of Loos' distinctive career playing women that began in the 3rd grade and has blossomed into something wonderful, bizarre and unlike anything else in the comedy world.
Loos approached Mike Benson at Paper Star Video in February 2015 to direct and film the series, and production began in September 2015. Sheryl will premiere online in mid-January 2016.
